Innerland Project: A Dialogue Between Art and Psychology

The Innerland Project, in collaboration with Artconnect, is an initiative that explores the psychological and psychoanalytic dimensions of art. Co-founded by Nora Kontostergiou (psychologist, psychoanalytic psychotherapist) and Harikleia Papapostolou (mixed-media artist), it investigates how the creative process fosters self-awareness, emotional transformation, and existential inquiry.

At its core, the project brings together artists whose work embodies both deeply personal and universal themes. Each session is centered around an artist’s practice, creating an immersive space for reflection, dialogue, and exploration. Rather than analyzing artwork, the project approaches it as a living process, a gateway to deeper self-exploration.

Through group sessions, guided discussions, and creative responses, participants engage not only with the artwork but with their own inner landscapes. The emphasis is on direct experience rather than interpretation, exploring how the body holds memory, emotions take shape, and art resonates on both personal and collective levels.

The Innerland Project is neither an art exhibition nor a therapeutic space; it exists in the liminal space where seeing, sensing, and being seen converge. By dissolving the boundary between observer and creator, it redefines the experience of art, not as a static aesthetic object, but as a transformative encounter.

Innerland Initiatives:

Workshop with the Artist
Each Workshop with the Artist is an experience that unfolds around the work and creative approach of a guest artist. The way they work, the concepts that drive them, the materials and methods they use become the starting point for a session shaped by their unique perspective. Participants do not simply observe a process, they step into it, interact, create, and explore in ways that emerge organically from the workshop itself. Each session is distinct, evolving according to the artist’s practice, the themes they bring, and the dynamic exchange between all involved.

Innerland Conversations
Innerland Conversations delve into the artist’s thought process and lived experience, opening up a dialogue that extends beyond their work into themes connected to art, psychology, psychoanalysis, and philosophy. The relationship between creation and inner exploration, the interplay between the individual and the collective, the ways in which art becomes a space for processing and transformation serve as open fields of inquiry. There is no single way to engage with art, no fixed interpretation. These conversations invite participants to enter the flow of thought, to connect with the ideas and experiences brought forth by the artist, and to discover within them something deeply personal.

Creative Meditation
Creative Meditation is a practice focused on the experiential reception of art. Through images, sound, movement, or silence, a space is formed where art is not merely observed from a distance but felt on an intimate level. This form of meditation does not follow a rigid structure but adapts to the aesthetic and thematic essence of each artist’s work. The artwork becomes a gateway to experience, allowing the viewer to move beyond rational analysis and into a state of deeper perception. It is a way to be fully present in the moment, to let the senses and mind sink into a different mode of awareness, one that is both immediate and profound.
